On July 20, 2002 the City celebrated its 20th birthday by 'planting' a time capsule near the gazebo at Chalmers-Jones Park (near City Hall). Inside the capsule they placed:
• A program of the 20th birthday celebration
• An EVAK patch
• An information packet describing the Willamette River Initiative
• A newspaper article regarding the Alice B. Toeclips award (national recognition of the helmet distribution project)
• Two tickets to a Volcanoes baseball game
• Information on the Southeast Keizer Neighborhood Association
• Councilor Mike Gaynor’s Keizer Little League cap from 1982
• Amy Kerr’s official publicity photo as America’s Jr. Miss and a letter thanking Keizer for its support
• A 1982 City of Keizer baseball cap made for each of the original councilors
• Keizer Police Department patch and a set of trading cards
• 2002 Keizer Chamber of Commerce directory and Iris Festival pins
• Newspaper article about the Keizer softball team that made it to the Little League World Series
• A 2002 city budget
• Keizer Community Cookbook
• An original brochure advertising for the incorporation vote of Keizer
• A 1982 proclamation officially named Keizer a city
