Keizer City Council Appoints Lore Christopher to Position #5

The Keizer City Council appointed Lore Christopher to fill the vacancy in Council Position #5, following the resignation of Councilor Robert Husseman. This decision was made during the Council’s Special Session on December 2, 2024, after a comprehensive selection process that included public presentations from three candidates.

Councilor Husseman, who was elected in November 2022, was serving a four-year term scheduled to expire in January 2027. On August 30, 2024, he submitted his resignation, which prompted the City Council to declare the position vacant on September 3, 2024. The Council then followed a structured appointment process, including a timeline amendment, to ensure that the vacancy was filled by December 2, 2024.

Three candidates expressed interest in the position: Juli Ray Joy, Lore Christopher, and Tammy Kunz. All three candidates presented their qualifications and answered questions from the City Council members during the December 2, 2024 Special Session. Lore Christopher was appointed after receiving a majority vote.

Lore Christopher has been a dedicated volunteer in the Keizer community for over 34 years. She moved to Keizer in 1989 and quickly became involved in local service, beginning her volunteer career with the Keizer Parks Advisory Board. Over the years, she has worked on various city projects, including the development of public arts initiatives and beautification efforts. Christopher has also served on several key committees, including the Keizer Public Arts Commission, the Keizer Budget Committee, and the Keizer Community Foundation.

Christopher brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the position. In her letter of interest, she emphasized her longstanding commitment to Keizer and her vision to work collaboratively with the City Council to serve the diverse needs of the community. She also highlighted her extensive experience in volunteer leadership roles, including as the Vice President of the Keizer Heritage Foundation and President of the Keizer Art Association.

“It is an honor to once again represent Keizer, all of Keizer,” said Christopher. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our city.  I am committed to helping Keizer in addressing the ongoing challenges that impact our community on a daily basis.  I look forward to working and collaborating with the Keizer City Councilors and community members to accomplish this commitment. Please reach out to me with any concerns you have and I will bring them forward to the council.”

Christopher holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Portland State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management from George Fox University. Her professional and volunteer experiences have provided her with strong leadership, collaboration, and fiscal management skills, which will be valuable assets to the Keizer City Council.

Christopher was sworn in at the December 2, 2024 City Council Regular Session following the December 2 appointment. She will serve the remainder of Councilor Husseman’s term, which expires in January 2027.
